Mohanalal married Suchitra on 28 April 1988. The screen icon had once said that his wedding proposal to Suchitra was initially cancelled as their horoscopes didn’t match. However, two years later the couple got married in a grand ceremony.
The Pulimurugan actor said in an interview, “I got married in 1988. Even two years before that, Suchi’s proposal had already come. Though her family was settled in Chennai, they had close contacts in Kozhikode. Her grandparents and aunts still live there. When this proposal came for the first time, it didn’t work out as our horoscopes didn’t match. So we gave up on it and moved on with our respective lives.”
Mohanlal said that both the families had forgotten about the proposal completely until two years later when the matter of his wedding came up again while he was staying at a friend’s house in Kozhikode.
“Whenever I visit Kozhikode, I stay at the house of KC Babu, the owner of Baby Marine, who is dear to me like an elder brother. I call him Babuchayan. So once when I was staying at his house for the filming of a movie, we discussed about my marriage. It was Balaji’s daughter Suchitra’s name which came up again,” said Mohanlal.
The actor said that it was only then he learned that somebody had mistakenly pronounced their horoscopes unmatchable. He added that he also came to know that Suchitra had been silently waiting for him for the last two years despite knowing that their horoscopes didn’t match.
“Two years had already gone by. I cannot express in words the emotions I felt at that moment when I came to know the truth. I hope that those who read this would understand my feelings then. The proposal was on again. Babuchayan and his wife Nancy chechi actively took part in everything. Our marriage was fixed then, and we got married in the end,” says the superstar.
