Mammootty will play role of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a film based on the life of one of the most influential political figures in the state.

It was confirmed by its director Mahi V Raghav. Mammootty, who will be doing a Telugu film after 20 years, will have Nayanthara as his heroine in the film titled 'Yatra'.

Yatra will tell the story of YSR's life between 1999 and 2004. His padayatra (walkathon) that catapulted the Congress to power in Andhra will be a key part of the film. YSR had completed the 1,475 km long journey in three months.

However, details about other actors and production team members are yet to be revealed. Raghav also enjoys the support of YSR's son Jaganmohan Reddy.

Mammootty first acted in a Telugu film in K Viswanathan Swathi Kiranam in 1992, while the last film he did in Telugu was Railway Coolie in 1998.
