'What is Lichi apologizing for?' Reshma, Vineeth, Mohanlal and Mammootty

It's quite natural in Kollywood for fans to troll the critics of their favorite stars, no matter who the critics are. At times, the slamming becomes so intense that fans end up fighting with another.

But on Monday, Malayalam movie buffs were quite surprised, for two Mollywood stars were slammed mercilessly on social media.

When Vineeth Sreenivasan, who sang the super hit song ‘Jimikki Kammal’ shared Mohanlal’s dance version on his Facebook page, he wrote, “Wowwww!!! Lal uncle s version of Jimikki Kammal.. Anil Abraham, amazing work brother!!!” (sic.), in no time, fans of Mohanlal emerged and slammed the young actor for calling Mohanlal an ‘uncle'.

While some fans argued that he should be addressed as ‘Lalettan’, some even went to the extend of abusing Vineeth for not referring Mohanlal as ‘sir’. Some others questioned what’s wrong in calling the 57-year-old actor, who is Vineeth’s father Sreenivasan's friend, as ‘uncle’.

Anna’s case is no different. All Anna did was to state that let Mammootty play a father’s role, while Dulquer can play a hero. But after getting trolled, the new artiste in the industry opted to go live via her Facebook page and apologized to Mammootty and Dulquer fans. But for what? For something she did not even intend to do or for those irrelevant trolls with which she was made fun of.

Rima and Anna Rima and Anna

While social media users were busy debating over this matter, actress Rima Kallingal came up with a must-read post. Extending her support to Anna and praising the acting prowess of Mammootty, she wrote: “Lichi was trolled for saying a 65 year old actor could play her fathers role? Why?? These people don't think Mammootty can carry that role? I think he can rock it.. like a boss.. remember Kouravar? I think he is a super brilliant actor and we will accept him playing a 70 year old or a 30 year old just like we will accept super brilliant actors like Shobhana, Urvashi and Revathy playing 70 year olds or 30 year olds... alle? How absolutely non-hypocritical, non-sexist, non-ageist lovely beings we are. Who is ruining our name by trolling lichi? What is the problem here? And why and what is Lichi apologising for?” (sic.).

It seemed Mammootty fans couldn’t take Rima’s stand either and soon started abusing her as well.

We rest our case here with a simple question - Isn’t trolling in the name of fandom too vile and doesn’t it actually affect the image of stars?
