World Trade Center in KochiKochi: Kochi is all set to welcome the fourth World Trade Center in India, after Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune. Thiruvananthapuram is also set to join the league soon with its own World Trade Center.
The Kochi World Trade Center, which sprawls on five acres in Infopark Kochi, has already six companies working out of it. They include KPMG and Xerox.
As much as 3.75 lakh square feet of area has been built in the first phase of development. Total area of the center would be 7.5 lakh square feet when complete. About 1,700 people are already employed in the center. The job count is expected to go up to about 10,000, said president P Balram Menon.
A Sheraton 4 Point five-star hotel is also coming up beside the World Trade Center.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the World Trade Center in Infopark in November.
The centers in Kerala are being built with a license from the World Trade Center Association, which operates the World Trade Center in New York.
There are 328 World Trade Centers across the globe.
The World Trade Center Association has licenses WTC Trade and Projects to build five World Trade Centers in India. WTC Trade and Projects is a subsidiary of Bengaluru-based developer Brigade Group. The company obtained the license after taking an annual membership in the World Trade Center Association.
The next World Trade Centers are set to come up in Chennai and Hyderabad. The Thiruvananthapuram project has been kicked off with land acquisition
