Kochi: The International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam has exceeded four lakh TEUs (twenty-foot-equivalent units) in a single fiscal year for the first time.
DP World, which operates the terminal, said the Vallarpadam terminal handled 400,238 TEUs, marking it a historic first for the Port of Cochin, which is all set to finish the financial year with a container throughout of 4.15 lakh TEUs.
"ICTT has till March 17 handled 400,238 TEUs from April 1 2015, up 13.5 per cent from 352,629 TEUs handled during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
In January 2016, volumes improved by 28 per cent, and in February by 38 per cent. March is expected to see similar high growth levels," it said in a release here.
