Various groups have arranged food, medical and emergency services at this year's Thrissur Pooram venue, to ensure the smooth running of the festival. Noted social service group would provide free ambulance service, and distribution of food and drinking water on Pooram day. These services are being provided by cooperating with the Thrissur corporation.
Food, ORS arrangements
Chapathi, curry and drinking water will be distributed from 11 am onwards, on April 19, in front of the ACTS Thrissur branch office that functions at the old district hospital building near the Paramekkavu temple. ACTS members would distribute bottled drinking water at the venues where the ‘Ilanjithara melam’ and ‘kudamattam’ will be held. Meanwhile, Thrissur Mayor and the general secretary of the organisation MK Varghese said that ACTS would join hands with the health department to distribute ORS solutions at the time of ‘kudamattam’ ritual.
Sevabharathi would distribute free food at Pazhaya Nadakkavu Lakshmi Wedding Hall and Chinmaya Mission Neeranjali Hall near the north bus stand. The food distribution is from 11 am to 5 pm. Besides, they would distribute ayurvedic drinking water at Thekkegopuranada, Manikandanal, Pazhaya Nadakkavu, Naikanal, north bus stand, East Fort, Paramekkavu and near the corporation office.
Arrangements for heatwave-related issues
A 12-member stretcher team of ACTS would be ready at the venue to take anyone who faints due to the heatwave or feels discomfort, swiftly to the hospital. Meanwhile, the group, along with Shantibhavan Palliative Hospital, would conduct free medical and cancer screening camps at various spots in the city. There would be facilities for ultrasound scans, dental treatment, dental x-rays and free checking of BP and oxygen pulse rate at these camps. Moreover, the service of expert doctors too is available here. On April 19, the screening vehicle will be at Swaraj Round from 8 am onwards. On April 20, the day of Pakalpooram, the vehicle will be at Kuruppam Road.
Sevabharati has also arranged medical aid posts at three spots in and around the Pooram venue. Moreover, they will provide 10 ambulances, service of five hundred volunteers who have experience in disaster management and information counter facilities too. The medical aid posts will function in cooperation with Athreya Hospital, Sun Medical Trust Hospital and West Fort Hospital.
