Pinarayi and Anjarakandi, two places in Kannur are gearing up to make a mark in the tourism map of Kerala with the newly proposed Pazhassi Raja and Spices Cruise projects.
It is expected that once the project comes to play, pilgrimage tourism would also flourish by coordinating Muzhapilangad, Andalloor, Peralassery, Mavilayi and Parassinikadavu temples. The tourism department of Kerala has sanctioned Rs 11.08 crore to build brand new boat terminals at the Anjarakandi lake. This project at the Anjarakandi lake aims to promote the traditional trade and commerce centered around the river and to introduce the local cuisine of the area through the food stalls on the banks of the river.
The project also intends to unravel the majestic history of Pazhassi Raja to the world and keep his memories alive. Boat terminals with modern facilities will be built at Darmadam, Pinarayi, Parapram, Companymetta and Chambadu. Rs 3.20 crore has been allotted to construct boat terminals and restrooms at Darmadam and Rs 3.47 crore for the same at Pinarayi Parapram.
Another Rs 3.47 crore has been allotted to built boat terminal, restrooms and food stalls at Pinarayi Companymetta. The proposed boat jetty at Chambadu would get Rs 94 lakh rupees. The proposed project is expected to attract tourists from within and outside the country. This would make Anjarakandi Karappathottam and Parapram where the Kerala wing of the Communist Party has its roots easily accessible for the tourists.
