Munnar, Kerala's popular hill station with sprawling tea plantations and winding lanes, has won the award for 'Best Destination for Romance' at the 'Lonely Planet Magazine Indian Travel Awards 2017'.
P Bala Kiran, director, Kerala Tourism received the award from Hindi film actress Diana Penty at the sixth edition of the award distribution in Mumbai recently. Bala Kiran said such awards inspire other travel enthusiasts to visit and experience unexplored destinations. Kerala, considered India s greenest state, is also witnessing constant progress in foreign as well as domestic tourist arrivals since 2011, he said.

The foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in the state has escalated by 6.23 per cent and 5.67 per cent respectively compared to the previous year, he said.
The state government, which will soon come with a new tourism policy, is giving more thrust to tourism infrastructure, Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran said. The hilly Munnar town in Idukki district is famous for its romantic cottages, cloudy mountains, lively tea gardens, green valleys, and waterfalls.

Munnar was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India.
