Vellore: Dr. Sekar Viswanathan, vice-president, VIT-Vellore, has been appointed to a key national panel on higher education.
Sandip Somany, the president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), appointed Dr Viswanathan as the co-chair of its Higher Education Committee.
While FICCI is the voice of India's business and industry, its panel on higher education advises the government and other stakeholders on ways to improve it.
The panel, which prepares the roadmap for improving the higher education sector in India, comprises of leading educationalists.
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a reputed self-financing institution based in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1984 as the Vellore Engineering.
It has campuses in Vellore and Bhopal.
Sandip Somany, vice chairman and managing director of Hindustan Sanitaryware & Industries Limited, took over as the president of FICCI in December 2018.
