Thiruvananthapuram: Petrol and diesel prices continued to rise for the seventh consecutive day on Saturday.
Petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and diesel prices touched new highs in Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
The surge continued despite a fall in the cost of international crude oil.
Petrol in Thiruvananthapuram was selling for Rs 82. 04 per litre up by 18 paise. Diesel has hit Rs 75.53 inching up by 24 paise.
With this the non-stop rise in prices have entered the ninth day. Consumers will also be affected with the rise in the prices of LPG cylinders.
Cylinders will cost Rs 30 more and be sold at Rs 812.50. LPG cylinders for domestic use will now cost Rs 1410. 50, up by Rs 47.
International crude oil prices fall
International oil prices retreated on Friday as US energy companies added oil rigs for the first time in three weeks.
The number of rigs operating in US oil fields increased by two to a total of 862 rigs this week, oilfield service firm Baker Hughes said in its weekly report on Friday, Xinhua reported.
The US oil rig count rose by one in August after gaining three rigs in July and losing one in June.
