Jits, a police officer, dreamed of building a comfortable abode with all the modern facilities at his hometown in Vettilapara, Malappuram, Kerala. He wanted to construct his brand new house without burning a hole in his pocket. It was architect Juman who designed this beautiful house by keeping in mind the interests and preferences of the family members.

“It has only been a month since we moved into our dream home. I am a police officer and my wife is a teacher. We wanted a house which comfortably accommodated the interests of my six-member family which includes my parents as well. I was very particular that the budget shouldn’t exceed Rs 30 lakh. Designer Juman drew a plan which perfectly catered to our demands and interests,” says Jits excitedly.

The space behind the plot, which has hard rock surface, is raised. So, the foundation was naturally strong and no additional cost or efforts were needed for it. It saved a considerable amount of money. The rooms are designed according to the differing levels of the plot. The amazing fusion of roofs is the most striking feature of the elevation. The slanted roof, in double height, in the center is flanked by a flat roof and a slop roof on either side.

The eye-catching combination of dark yellow and white hues highlights the incredible design features in the exteriors. A wall with wooden claddings adds a scintillating contrast here. Landscaping is done in various layers to suit the unique structure of the plot. Planter boxes are installed in the boundary walls by diving it in strips.

There is a car porch, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen, three bedrooms, an upper study area and library in this elegant house, which has an area of 1350 sq ft. The house is designed in such a way that spaces are meticulously utilized. Vitrified tiles, in reasonable rates, are paved on the floor.

The formal living area, designed in double height, makes the space look vast. Natural sunshine enter through the skylight on the wall, illuminating the interiors. So, there is no need to switch on the lights during the daytime inside the house. Skylights are installed in kitchen as well. The interiors emanate the incredible charm of minimalism as the spaces aren’t over-crowded with decors or other exquisite design features. The prayer area is arranged on a wall in the dining space. Planter boxes are installed by adding niches on the walls. This feature not only saved money but also add a hint of greenery in the interiors.

The theme of minimalism could be witnessed in the bedrooms which has all the necessary facilities. Two bedrooms are bath-attached. There is a common bathroom beneath the stairway. A small aquarium above it is an interesting feature. A study area and a library are arranged on the upper floor, taking advantage of the flat roof here.

The kitchen is designed in striking white and maroon colour theme. The cupboards have ACP powder coating.

As the plot is raised a little, an excellent view of the greenery is possible from all the windows in the house. The cross-ventilation helps maintain a pleasant atmosphere inside the house. The constriction of the house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a reasonable budget of Rs 30 lakh. The family is extremely joyous as they show around their dream abode which, as per their wishes, was completed on a low budget.

Among the many factors which contributed to lowering the expenses, the strong surface of the plot played a vital role. An elaborate foundation didn’t have to be additionally built. Light points are directly installed without adding the false ceiling. The kitchen cupboards are done in aluminum fabrication. The use of wood is limited. The windows are in metal frame and glass finish.
