Ameer ul-Islam (marked in red) being taken to court. ScreengrabKochi: Weeks after migrant laborer Ameer ul-Islam's arrest in the sensational Jisha murder case, Kerala police have taken him out without the black mask that they had made him wear constantly in public.
Ameer was taken to the court on Thursday by the police without the mask, and his face bore no resemblance to the sketch released by the probe team earlier of the suspected killer.
Perumbavoor Judicial First Class Magistrate sent 23-year-old suspect to judicial custody till July 13 when he was produced by police at the end of his 10-days police custody.
The court also asked Ameer if he had any complaints and he replied in negative.

According to the prosecution lawyer, Kerala police's request for his remand was accepted by the court that sent Islam to the Ernakulam district jail.
"Islam's lawyer presented a petition saying that he should be permitted to speak with his client in the jail. The court will pronounce its order on this on Friday," the prosecution lawyer said.
The police had refused to reveal Ameer's face earlier, stating it would adversely affect the probe.
The dalit law student, Jisha, was brutally killed at her house in Perumbavoor. The Assam migrant laborer was arrested from Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu.
Police take back sandal, knife used by Ameer
The police have taken back from the court the knife used by Ameer to stab Jisha and the pair of sandals worn by him while committing the crime.
The police collected the material evidences from Kuruppampady court. The police will now confirm the relevance of the materials in the crime by showing them to Ameer, the prime accused in the case.
Kuruppampady CI reached the court Thursday morning and filed a plea to recover the objects.
Ameer, in his statement given to the police, said that he had hurled the knife into the canal near Jisha's home after the crime. On the basis of this statement, the police had recovered the knife in the early stage of the probe itself. However, the police were still doubtful whether Ameer had used the same weapon to commit the offense.
