Kottayam: A week after he was booked by the police on charges of assaulting an MBA student by barging into her flat in Thrissur,  Padma awardee Sunder Menon, has moved an anticipatory bail plea in the Kerala High Court.

There is no progress in the probe and the only action taken by the Thrissur East police against the influential businessman was to seize his car.

The victim's lawyer said this was only an eyewash to create an impression that they were acting on the complaint.

Adv. Asha Unnithan, who represents Parvathi Venugopal, the victim, told Onmanorama Saturday that Menon moved an anticipatory bail plea in the high court.

Menon has reportedly fled the country after the incident, but the police are yet to confirm it. When contacted by Onmanorama, the cops refused to respond to the reports.

In her complaint, the victim had alleged that Menon assaulted her and threatened to kill her father by barging into her flat in Thrissur, when she was alone. She sought medical treatment from Thrissur General Hospital after Menon allegedly broke her hand. Menon is said to have some issues with her father Venugopal, a marine engineer.

Menon has denied all the charges and said he was being framed in the case. In a press release on August 8, Menon said he was being targeted by vested interests after he won the Padmashree honor and that he was willing to cooperate with the probe, though he is yet to turn himself in before the police.
