Why Jaya said no to Billa opposite Rajinikanth Rajinikanth in 'Billa' and a file photo of Jayalalithaa

While the entire nation is mourning the demise of Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, an interesting letter about Jayalalithaa has surfaced online and is going viral.

According to the letter written by Jaya and addressed to Piousji who wrote for ‘Khaas Baat’ (a publication house), Jayalalithaa was supposed to star opposite superstar Rajinikanth. It’s been revealed that Jaya was offered an important role in Billa (1980), which is the Tamil remake of the Hindi film Don.

She wrote: ''I have been turning down some excellent offers. Perhaps you don't know that the heroine's role in Balaji's 'Billa', opposite Rajinikanth, was the first offered to me. It was only after I refused to do the film, that Balaji signed Sripriya for the role. Everybody knows that Balaji is one of the foremost film producers in India today, and Rajinikanth is Tamil screen's superstar. If I am capable of turning down such a dazzling offer, does that not prove conclusively that I am not in the least struggling to stage a come-back?''

''By God's grace, I am extremely well off financially, and I can continue to live like a queen for the rest," she concluded.

For Jayalalithaa, who acted in about 140 films, the political scenario of Tamil Nadu was a bigger priority than filmy stardom.
