New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ruled that national anthem should be played before every screening at the 21st edition of International Film Festival of Kerala that began in Thiruvananthapuram Friday.
The SC further said that everyone should stand up while the anthem is being played.
The court expressed shock over the petitioner's statement that playing national anthem during film festivals would be troublesome to foreigners. However, the court said that physically challenged people can sit during the anthem.
The Supreme Court had last month directed that cinema halls across the country must play the national anthem before the screening of a film and people should stand up as a mark of respect.
The court also directed that the national flag should be shown on screen when the anthem is played.
IFFK chairman Kamal had earlier said that national anthem would be played before movies at the festival.
