Nithin Renji Panicker, son of screenwriter-actor Renji Panicker, is making his directorial debut with a movie that stars Mammootty in the lead role and will see the superstar playing the role of a cop.
Nithin Panicker himself has penned the script for the movie, which is produced by Nithin's father, writer-director Renji Panicker and Anto Joseph.
According to close sources, the film has been tentatively titled Kasaba and has started rolling in Bangalore. A location photo of the actor has surfaced online where Mammootty is seen with a thick mustache and trimmed hair. Touted to be a comical thriller, Mammootty plays a police officer in the movie.
Daughter of actor Sarathkumar, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, is paired opposite Mammootty.

It was earlier reported that the role was originally written for Bollywood actress Tabu.
