Confirmed! Mohanlal to grace the state awards

Thrissur: Actor Mohanlal will be the chief guest at Kerala Film awards ceremony to be held on August 8. On Tuesday night, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and cultural minister AK Balan met the actor and talked about the matter.

The official invitation was sent to the actor on Wednesday and he assured them of his presence at the function. “Government has been in the forefront providing benefits to the movie artists association and I am happy to be part of the award ceremony," he said in his statement.

A statement signed by a few fringe artistes and some others had earlier this week requested the government to desist from giving the honour to any popular star at a government function. Their plea had raised a furore especially after it was found that its several proposers were hoodwinked into giving their names and the brains behind the petition had resorted to it to target Mohanlal, who is the chief of the film artistes' body AMMA.

Earlier, in a bid to douse the row, Kerala minister AK Balan confirmed that AMMA president Mohanlal will be invited for the award ceremony and the official invitation will be send on Wednesday.
