Kerala govt mulls an Olympics-like combined school sports festival next year

Thrissur: Kerala government plans to launch a School Oympics next year by bringing together the various state sports events that are now held separately.
General Education Minister V Sivankutty made the comment during the inauguration of the 65th State Schools Athletics Championships at Kunnamkulam on Tuesday.

The minister also said that a separate calendar will be prepared for the sports festival next year. The Director of Education has been tasked with preparing a proposal for the making such a calendar, the minister said.

“A well-prepared calendar will help our young sportspersons to prepare in a systematic way," said minister Sivankutty.

He added that Rs 2.60 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a new school building for the Kunnamkulam Government Vocational Higher Secondary School that is hosting the sports festival this year.
