India's Neeraj Chopra continued his Midas touch by adding the World Athletics Championships gold to his Olympic gold in Budapest on Sunday.
Neeraj hurled the javelin 88.17m in his second attempt to seal the gold.
Interestingly, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem bagged the silver with a season-best of 87.82m to make an unprecedented India-Pakistan 1-2 in an international athletics event.
Neeraj was in prime form as he consistently threw over 83 metres after fouling the first attempt. His sequence of throws were -- X, 88.17, 86.32, 84.64, 87.73, 83.98m.
Not only has the 25-year-old become the first Indian to clinch a World Championships gold, he's most certainly the first ever India to be the reigning Olympic and World champion.
Having settled for a silver medal in the previous edition of the Worlds last year, finishing behind Grenada's Anderson Peters, Neeraj was determined to go for gold.
Meanwhile, two other Indians in the competition, Kishore Jena and DP Manu also impressed with 80-plus throws. Jena did a personal best of 84.77 while Manu's best attempt on the night was 84.14m.
