The promoters of Thiruvananthapuram Kombans, one of the six franchises in the inaugural edition of Super League Kerala, have said they will invest Rs 2.5 crore into upgrading the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in the capital.

“The Kerala Police was kind enough to provide Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium as our home ground for three years. We are investing about Rs.2.5 crore to upgrade the stadium to suit international telecast standards,” said K C Chandrahasan, Managing Director of the Kombans.

T J Mathew Thayyil, Director, Thiruvananthapuram Kombans, said that the emergence of a professional football club in Thiruvananthapuram was just a matter of time. Thayyil is also a board member of Kovalam FC, one of the popular clubs in the city. The promoters said they were hopeful of transforming the city into a football hub.

The league launched by the Kerala Football Association is set to kick-off in Kochi on September 7. The other franchises are Kannur Warriors, Calicut FC, Malappuram FC, Thrissur Magic and Forca Kochi.
