Southern Kerala very likely to receive rains in next few days

Thiruvananthapuram: After a long dry spell, several parts of Kerala are likely to receive light showers mostly in the next four days, the India Meteorological Department predicted.

The southern districts, from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam, are 'very likely' to receive rains, states the IMD forecast issued on Monday noon.

However, a yellow alert has been sounded for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on Thursday, March 3, as isolated heavy rains are expected on this day. (A yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall between 6 to 11cm.)

"Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kerala March 3 and 4," the forecast further stated.

Fishermen have warned of 'squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely over south Tamil Nadu coast, southwest Gulf of Mannar and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal' on Wednesday, March 2. The  central parts of South Bay of Bengal too are likely to face this weather on Tuesday, March 1, the Met office warned.
