Kalpetta: The emergency meeting called by Wayanad District Collector AR Ajayakumar on Thursday decided to start a survey on the fever cases in the district after two men from here were affected with Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), commonly called monkey fever. The first phase of the survey would include Noolppuzha, Mullakolli and Thirunelli panchayats, which are more vulnerable.
A control room was opened in the collectorate, and the details of the survey would be marked there. The collector said that both the patients were recovering and there is no emergency situation in the district as of now.
In the preliminary findings, it is assumed that the disease was contracted from areas of Bairakuppa in Karnataka. On Wednesday, a 35-year-old man from Athattukunnu colony, near Aranappara was admitted at Mananthavady district hospital with KFD and another 27-year-old man from Thonikkadavu colony near Bavali, who was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital in
Kozhikode after showing similar symptoms, was also confirmed to have contracted the disease. Though the hamlets of both the men are at a distance of 10 km to 15km, they fall under the primary health centre limit of Appappara, Thirunelli. Both are suspected to have contracted the disease from villages in Karnataka.
The officials said that enough vaccines are stocked and more would be brought from Shimoga. To create awareness among the public, more campaigns would be conducted in the district. The collector repeated that those who are moving to the forest should be administered vaccine.
Sub Collector NSK Umesh, district medical officer Dr R Renuka, surveillance officer Dr Noona Marja and other heads of departments attended the meeting.
