Palakkad: A three-storey building near the Palakkad municipal bus stand collapsed on Thursday.

Though there was no immediate report of casualties, reports said people were trapped under the debris after a part of the building caved in.

Police and fire force personnel are carrying out the rescue operations.

At least 11 people, including two women, have been rescued from the debris and have been rushed to the hospital. It was not immediately known how many people were trapped.

Maintenance work at a hotel in the building could have caused the collapse. Police and fire force personnel are carrying out the rescue operations. TV visuals showed earth movers clearing the debris.
