In a significant development linked to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the victim's parents have approached the Calcutta High Court, seeking a fresh investigation into the case. They have challenged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing dissatisfaction with its progress.
The trial against the main accused, Sanjoy Roy, is currently underway in the trial court, reported LiveLaw. Meanwhile, two other accused allegedly involved in a cover-up conspiracy, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, were granted bail after the CBI failed to file a chargesheet against them within the mandatory 90-day period.
Previously, the victim's parents had contested the State police's handling of the case, leading to the investigation being transferred to the CBI. The agency had been providing regular updates to the Supreme Court during the initial stages of the probe.
