The Kottayam Additional Sessions Court on Thursday convicted George Kurian (52), also known as Papan, of Karimbanal, for the murder of his younger brother and his mother’s brother.
The court found the accused guilty under Section 302 of the IPC for murder, Section 449 for house-trespass with the intent to commit murder, Section 506(2) for criminal intimidation by threatening witnesses inside the house with a gun after committing the crime, and Section 30 of the Indian Arms Act for violating the conditions of his gun licence.
Kottayam Additional Sessions Judge J Nasser pronounced the verdict. The final arguments on sentencing will be heard on Friday.
The incident occurred on March 7, 2021. According to the prosecution, the accused shot and killed his younger brother, Renju Kurian (50), and his mother’s brother, Mathai Scaria (78), using his licensed revolver.
