Recounting an experience in 2006, Chinmayi explained how Vairamuthu threatened her with political power and said how he could end her singing career.

In a wave of #MeToo accounts, many women have been calling out their alleged harassers on social media. With many big names getting listed as harassers, senior lyricist Vairamuthu, who has penned many songs in Tamil, has also been accused of sexually harassing many women.

With some anonymous people sharing their painful experiences with Vairamuthu on Twitter, singer Chinmayi Sripaada has now opened up with a barrage of tweets on social media. By supporting the anonymous victims, Chinmayi accused Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct.

Recounting an experience in 2006, Chinmayi explained how Vairamuthu threatened her with political power and said how he could end her singing career.

“In 17 years not one man in the industry across languages Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, or Marathi has misbehaved. Not one man has indecently messaged me or touched me. My work place is mostly clean, save for some bad apples. I call Vairamuthu (Sir) out alone and I dare,” Chinmayi tweeted.

Actor Siddharth has come out in support of Chinmayi. “Multiple women are speaking out against Kavignar #Vairamuthu. Without judging anyone, they must be heard. When somebody of @Chinmayi's stature who has so much to lose, stands by the accusers, that's huge! There will be investigation. First step #ListenToTheAccuser #MeToo #Timesup,” he tweeted.

Other celebrities like Rahul Ravindran, Samantha Akkineni, and Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar have also tweeted in support of the #MeToo movement.
