Many people feel a severe pain in the lower back when they stand erect for a long time. For them, ‘Chalanapavanamuktasanam’ yoga offers a remedy. The method of practising this yoga is as follows:
Lie on your back with both legs close together. Keep both hands beside the body with the palm turned towards the ground.
Slowly inhale and fold both legs while extending the hands above the knees. Lock your arms around the knees. Exhale and slowly lift your torso and bring yourself to a sit-up posture.
Now inhale and roll back with arms round the knees in the same posture. Repeat the movement 5 to 8 times. Take rest and relax by lying down when you feel exhausted. Do the exercise twice or thrice.
Benefits of the yoga
Chalanapavanamuktasanam has the effect of giving a good massage to the spine. As the vertebrae press against the floor, they become very nimble, flexible and get improved blood circulation. Similarly, the muscles on the lower and upper back as well as the hips relax thanks to this movement. The yoga offers a solution to swelling and pain. The nerves around the waist and on the back are also stimulated after a yoga session.
