Abraham’s brand new house at the countryside, beside a lush paddy field, at Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam, Kerala has already become the talk of the town. This suave abode designed in contemporary architecture instantly grabs attention. The fabulous blend of the flat and slope roof is quite interesting. The fancy louvers on the upper storey add a chic vibe to the elevation. These are made by screwing wooden planks on metal pipes. Besides blocking the harsh sunlight from entering the house, these louvres grant privacy to the spaces in the upper floor.
This comfortable dwelling, designed in 2500 sqft has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area, and three bedrooms. The wall in the car porch is highlighted with exposed brick cladding, adding a rustic charm to this area.
The formal living area has privacy and one cannot see the rest of the interiors from here. The interior spaces are designed in the open style to make it look and feel vaster. Besides, it allows amazing ventilation inside the house.
The huge windows let in the cool breeze that flow from the nearby fields. Meanwhile, the family living area, dining space, and the courtyard have been arranged as part of the spacious hall. Instead of partitions, the variation in the floor levels is what separates the spaces.
The courtyard is the highlight of the interiors. The beautiful indoor plants here add a hint of greenery. Moreover, this courtyard separates the formal and the family living areas.
The floating style stairway is quite interesting and also acts as a partition that separates the family living area and the prayer space. The exposed brick cladding highlights could be seen on the wall beside the stairway too.
Currently, the aged couple lives in this house and the spaces have been designed to make maintenance easier. Their bedroom is in the ground floor. Two more bedrooms are arranged in the upper floor for their children to stay whenever they are home.
The family has been living in the city and was initially sceptical to move to such a tranquil area. However, they now enjoy the fresh air and the splendid nature that surrounds their amazing abode.
