Thiruvanathapuram: The Kerala government allowed 97 additional batches for Plus One students in Kerala on Wednesday as the admission process drew to a close in the state.
Minister for General Education V Sivakutty announced the decision following a Cabinet meeting. The maximum number of batches were allotted to Malappuram district.
However, education experts told Onmanorama that the current addition of batches will not solve the problem in Malappuram district.
One batch can accommodate up to 65 students. Even if all the additional batches are allocated to schools in the district, there will be around 2,000 students out of the stream, they pointed out.
The district needs 128 more batches to accommodate all the students waiting for admission to their preferred courses in the districts, they said.
District-wise split
Malappuram- 53
Kasaragod- 15
Kozhikode-11
Kannur-10
Palakkad -4
Wayanad-4
The admission process based on the second supplementary allotment to higher secondary and vocational higher secondary seats has been completed.
The Plus-One seat allotment this year started after retaining the 81 temporary batches and marginal seats sanctioned last year. Along with this, the 14 batches without sufficient students in southern districts last year were transferred to the Malappuram district this year.
Transfer allotment
The next step in the multi-round admission process is inviting applications for changes in school or subject combination of those who have currently secured Plus-One admission. The transfer allotment will be published only after considering this.
Thereafter, supplementary allotment for those who are yet to secure admission will be held.
