Thiruvananthapuram: Assuring students and parents not to worry over seat shortages in Plus One admission, Education Minister V Sivankutty has said additional batches will be announced after the completion of the third allotment, when the state government will get a clear picture.
An examination into the seat shortage status will be held at the Taluk-panchayat levels, and temporary additional batches will be allotted if necessary, he said.
"A total of 2,22,377 students got admission as of now after the completion of two rounds of allotment. Another 84,794 seats will be in the third allotment. Also, 3841 seats will be allotted under the sports quota. It’s estimated that 3,11,012 students will get admission upon completion of the three allotments in the first stage," the minister said.
There are 23,914 seats under the community quota and 37,995 seats under the management quota in aided colleges. Also, 54,585 seats are available under the aid quota. In total, there are 4,27,505 seats. Even if all 4,17,944 students who passed the State Secondary Certificate (SSLC) examination this year gain admission, there will still be vacant seats. Besides, a total of 1,04,449 seats will be available in the vocational higher secondary, polytechnic, and ITI courses.
In the case of Malappuram district, which has the highest number of applicants for Plus One admission (81,022), as many as 7,008 students are from other districts. There are 56,500 seats in government-aided schools and another 11,286 seats in aided schools in the district. In addition to this, there are 2,820 seats in VHSE and 6,364 seats in polytechnic and ITI institutions, taking the total number of seats there to 76,970. This figure excludes the ITC seats.
A total of 4,886 students failed to get admission upon completion of the first two allotments in Malappuram. Such a number of seats will be considered vacant in the third allotment. A substantial number of students will get admission in the third allotment, the minister assured.
Permanent admission for 1.39 lakh students
A total of 1,39,661 students have received permanent admission to Plus One programmes through merit upon completion of the first two rounds of allotment.
As many as 78,954 students who received allotments to lower options have secured temporary admission. Meanwhile, 39,535 candidates, who got the allotment in the two rounds, did not receive admission, and 3,762 students secured admission through the sports quota.
In the second round alone, 18,612 students could be given permanent admission, but 15,795 did not receive it. As many as 19,545 students were newly included in the second allotment, 17,649 of those who had received admission in the first allotment could make changes to higher options.
The final allotment list will be published on July 1, including those who obtained temporary admission and those who were not included in the first two rounds of allotment. More students are likely to get admission since the third allotment list will be prepared by considering seats lying vacant without applicants or those not filled by students failing to get admission despite obtaining the allotment.
A conventional estimate suggests that around 80,000 seats are currently vacant. Those who failed to get temporary admission despite receiving an allotment will not be considered for the third allotment.
