Mala: Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare neuromuscular disorder could only affect Asna Sherin’s body and not her mind or spirit. Asna’s eyes were full of dreams and aspirations as she went to school.
Now, she has defeated her illness by scoring A plus grades for all the subjects. Asna, daughter of Meladur natives Shiyas and Aneesa, has been suffering from this disease for years.
As there is a curve in her spinal cord, Asna attended school on a wheelchair. She was worried about whether she could write Hindi, English and Social Science exams. She had to undergo treatment at the hospital before reaching the exam hall.
Asna shows flair in drawing and poetry writing too. She has also won the state government’s Ujjwala Award for excellence.
