Kozhikode: A 53-year-old woman was found dead off the shore at Virunnukandy Beach in Koyilandy on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Ajitha Koyante Valappil, a resident of Cheriya Mangad, Koyilandy.

Fishermen saw her body around 8 am and alerted the coastal police. The body was 150 meters from the shore, police said. Coastal wardens, along with the fishermen, brought it to the shore for identification.

The Elathur Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The body has been taken to Koyilandy Taluk Hospital, where an autopsy will be conducted before it is handed over to the family. Inquest procedures were carried out by Elathur Coastal police, led by Sub Inspector Prithvi Raj.

Ajitha is survived by her mother, Vilasini, sister Anjali, and brother Ajayan.
