Kannur: A 15-year-old boy drowned in a temple pond while bathing with his friend at Chovva in Kannur on Tuesday. The deceased is Fas Abdul Jaleel K K, of Thana. According to the police, the mishap took place between 4.30 pm and 5 pm. Fas and a friend reached the Chovva Siva temple pond to take a bath in the evening. Fas drowned when he attempted to swim across the pond, police said.

"On seeing Fas drowning, his friend screamed for help. Hearing him cry, local residents rushed to help. Though Fas was taken to a nearby hospital, he could not be saved. He was declared dead at around 5.15 pm," an officer said. Son of Abdul Jaleel and Shamema, Fas was a Class 10 student of Bharatiya Vidyabhavan School, Kakkad in Kannur. His body will be handed over to relatives after conducting autopsy, police said.
