Air travel to get pricey during Christmas; tickets cost up to Rs 17,000

Chennai: As the trains to Kerala during the Christmas – New Year season are fully booked, passengers now rely on airplanes to reach home. But, adding to their woes, the airfares have also skyrocketed. The air ticket costs more than Rs 10,000 to Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. Meanwhile, some airlines charge up to Rs 14,000 – 17,000. The ticket on the aeroplane to Thiruvananthapuram at 4.50 am on December 21 costs Rs 9,281. Meanwhile, the services to Kochi and Kozhikode cost Rs 14,846 and Rs 17,156 respectively. The airfare on December 22 is Rs 13,586, Rs 14,846 and Rs 15,686 and Rs 9,281, Rs 12,221 and Rs 12,746 on December 23.

The tickets to Kochi on December 21 start from Rs 11,000 onwards and could go up to Rs 15,000. Meanwhile, the ticket costs Rs 10,519 – 12,882 on December 22 and Rs 11,307 – 14,142 on December 23. Similar fares are charged for air tickets to Kozhikode, too. The lowest rates are to Kannur, with tickets costing Rs 8,840, Rs 5060 and Rs 6057 on December 21, 22 and 23, respectively. The airfares are likely to increase in the coming days as the number of passengers go up.
