The world-renowned travel destination Munnar in Kerala's Idukki district is gradually becoming alive after coming to a standstill when the pandemic struck. Visitors have started arriving in the area, mostly from districts adjacent to Idukki, overcoming the difficulties posed by the lockdown.
In fact, most of the large and medium resorts and hotels are now open, even though the small lodges are still remaining shut. All resorts and hotels are offering attractive packages for travellers, hoping to revive tourism in the area.
Along with 50-65 per cent discounts on room tariff, all COVID-19 precautions have been put in place. Bookings in big hotels are being done by the visitors themselves and not through travel agencies as earlier.
Meanwhile, hotel authorities have also started recalling staff who were laid off following the lockdown. They expect a boom in the tourism sector during the Onam holidays and have urged the government to reopen the major places of interest like Eravikulam national park, Mattuppetty, and Kundala to attract domestic travellers.
