Idukki district collector G.R. Gokul has said that strict action, according to the Kerala Forest Act, will be taken to curb illegal entry to Meesapulimala, the third highest peak in the Western Ghats. Devikulam sub-collector has also issued a ban on disrupting the delicate eco-system of the hills.

Meesapulimala shot to fame after Dulquer Salmaan's blockbuster Malayalam movie 'Charlie' hit the screens in 2015. However, the eco-system of the hills has been affected badly with the tourists dumping plastic waste and littering the area.

Meesapulimala is about 24kms from Munnar town. Tall pine trees wave to you from both sides of the road as you drive to the base camp. If you are reaching Meesapulimala in the evening, stay back at Sky Cottage and start your trek the next day. The view from here is breathtaking and the trek uphill will take you closer to the clouds.

How to go to Meesapulimala

Considering the sensitive eco-system, the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) organizes package tours at a fixed price.  Even though it is a bit costly, it is the only legal way to visit Meesapulimala.
