In a few days, Vagamon will host a thrilling fest of adventure. India's largest aero sports adventure fest will be held in the tourist destination from March 14 to 17. The location of the fest is the Kolahalamedu Hills, which is 4 km from Vagamon. Participants from more than 15 countries and adventure enthusiasts from various states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Goa and more are expected to attend the event.
Around 100 gliders would compete at the event, according to reports. Moreover, the event is also likely to attract visitors from far and wide, to enjoy trial runs by pilots and paragliding by expert gliders. The show is jointly organized by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) under the Department of Tourism and the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). The technical support for the fest is offered by the Paragliding Association of India.
A first of four adventure events
The paragliding fest will kick-start the adventure tourism calendar of Kerala, followed by the International Surfing Festival of Varkala from March 29 to 31. The International Mountain Terrain Biking Championship (April 26 to 28) at Mananthavady in Wayanad and the Malabar River Festival (July 25 to 28) at Chaliyar are the other two events. Renowned champions and riders from across the world will be part of the event. The various categories in which events will be held are – hike and fly, thermaling, ground handling, mini XC, spot landing at top landing spot and mini acrobatics show.
