From being events that host close to a 1,000 people, with chandeliers and ice sculptures adding to the grandiose, weddings have now become intimate destination events. Scenic beaches and stunning landscapes have become the hotspots for such ceremonies, giving a much-needed boost to the tourism sector, struggling to recover from the pandemic slump. Now, this beautiful tourist location near Kottayam in Kerala has become the hottest wedding destination, thanks to the breathtaking landscape paired with a calm and serene vibe.

Kumarakom, the backwater heaven near Kottayam, is the perfect place to host your special day in the backdrop of an azure beach and emerald backwaters. Kumarakom is fast becoming a popular monsoon tourism spot as well as a destination wedding venue. The place is filled with resorts that would suit any budget range.

Most of the wedding parties coming to Kumarakom are from North India. In the last month alone, 18 marriages took place here with people coming in from different states. The place is hot for anniversaries, birthday parties and even workations.

Destination wedding is expected to become a lucrative business in the tourism sector regardless of the season, according to K S Arun Kumar, who is the Chamber of Vembanad Hotels and Resort General Secretary. Apart from wedding ceremonies, hotels and resorts are also organising monsoon tourism packages.

Kumarakom is situated 15 kilometres from Kottayam town. The nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport. The nearest railway station is in Kottayam.
