RJ Sooraj recounts trips to Serbia and Egypt

RJ Sooraj is well known among Malayalam telly audiences, and has also made his presence felt on social media and through reality shows. Despite his busy work schedule, Sooraj and his wife Akshaya find time to hit the road as both are avid travellers. The popular RJ (radio jockey) also makes it a point to share his travel experiences on social media through 'RJ Sooraj Vlogs.' Sooraj opens his heart to Manorama on his best-loved travel escapades.

Enchanting countryside of Serbia

Sooraj has documented his travel to Serbia, which lies in south-east Europe, in a beautiful way in his vlog. Serbia is the only nation in Europe where Indians can visit without visa as they just need hotel booking records, insurance documents and flight tickets to travel to this wonderful country. Even the flight ticket rates are pocket-friendly, says Sooraj.

He has shared his sublime experience of travelling by road through the charming Serbian countryside and taking boat rides. The Serbian hamlets have a pristine beauty with crystal-clear lakes, verdant corn fields and lush meadows. The vlog also shows how the nation’s traditional wine ‘rakija’ and natural cigarettes are made. Sooraj also lists the mouth-watering delicacies made of fish caught from the Danube River and a whole array of wines that reflect the rich cuisine of Serbia.

Stuck in a tunnel!

A walk through a long tunnel, which built was in the 17th century to trap invaders, was an unforgettable experience, says Sooraj. A number of centuries-old tunnels, wine cellars and wells could be found at Kosutnjak near Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. These notable tunnels, which date back to the Roman Empire, are in close proximity to the modern apartment complexes in the city. The architecture that shaped these tunnels is a reminder of the life that thrived in this historic place, which was under the control of Germany during World War-II. The walk through the 300-year-old tunnel was bit scary, notes Sooraj.

The tunnel is part of the fort that was constructed by the Serbian kings to trap the enemies. If you make sound inside the tunnel it will resonate, and the adversaries who entered the tunnel were shot dead.

Scores of love locks could be seen on the wall near the tunnel as couples tie these locks with the belief that their love will stand the test of time.

Mummies of Egypt

Another trip that is etched in the mind of Sooraj is the 4-day-and-5-night-long visit to Egypt in search of mysteries. On the first day, he went to Cairo and has posted videos of Saint Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox Church, also known as 'Hanging Church,' the age-old synagogue and mosques.

He has also shared footage of Alexandria, a city founded by Alexander the Great, rare mummies and pyramids on social media.
