Movies and locations leave lasting impression in our minds. And today, we are going to go back in time and tell you the story of how a small cave near Idukki dam holds a unique place in the Malayali psyche – all thanks to Vaishali, a movie that hit the screens in 1988.
The movie
Vaishali, a period drama helmed by ace director Bharathan starring Suparna and Sanjay Mitra hit the marquee in 1988. The story which traces its roots to the epic Mahabharata spoke about Rishyasringan, a young seer who was seduced by Vaishali. The movie had some memorable songs picturised in Idukki. Vaishali Cave
This cave has an interesting story too. While building the Idukki Dam, rocks blasted off were taken through this cave to the dam site. A lot of people visit the cave even now. Ask around. Sometimes, the authorities do not permit you to visit these caves.
Reaching Vaishali Caves
A half an hours walk from the dam to Kuravan hills will put you at the mouth of the cave. The view from this place is breathtaking.
