Lucknow: The condition of the Unnao rape survivor continues to be highly critical two days after she was hospitalised following a car-truck crash in Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.

The Unnao rape came up in 2017 when A 17-year-old girl had alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

On Sunday, a truck with hidden number plate hit the car in which the girl and her family was travelling. Two persons – Sheela (50) and Pushpa (45) – were killed on the spot, while the girl and her lawayer were hospitalised with severe injuries.

Hospital authorities informed that she has been on ventillator since Monday. Her lawyer Mahendra Singh too has been on ventilator. The doctors, however, refused to comment on the survival possibility of both the patients.

"The girl has sustained internal injuries besides fractures in her collar bone, ribs and right thigh. The lawyer has head injury besides 13 fractures in all. Both are on ventilator and their condition remains critical," said trauma surgery head at the Trauma Centre, Sandeep Tiwari.

What is the Opposition's demand?

Lok Sabha on Tuesday witnessed vociferous protests and sloganeering by Opposition parties, including the Congress, over the incident of Unnao rape survivor getting injured in a car crash. They demanded the Home Minister should issue a statement at the House. “The Unnnao accident is a blot on the civilised society. We demand that Home Minister should come to the House and issue a statement,” reported NDTV.

Congress, BSP, SP and DMK members walked out of the Lok Sabha accusing BJP of "extending patronage" to party MLA Sengar.

What is Unnao rape case?

Unnao rape came to light after she attempted to immolate herself in front of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house.

Her father who was later booked by the police under Arms Act, was allegedly beaten up and killed by the MLA's brother and aides in jail.

Sengar, who is an accused in the rape case, was arrested on April 13 last year

The rape survivor's uncle Mahesh Singh was jailed in three cases of attempt to murder. He had applied for a 72-hour parole so that he could attend the cremation of the two family members, including his wife Pushpa Singh, who died in Sunday's accident.

What are the charges against Sengar?

On Monday, the Uttar Pradesh police had filed a murder case against BJP legislator Sengar and nine others following a complaint from the rape survivor's family, alleging conspiracy behind the accident.

"A First Information Report has been registered under the Indian Penal Code's sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 120b (criminal conspiracy) against 10 named persons, including the BJP MLA, and 15-20 others," a police officer said.

Sengar, a four-time MLA who represents Bangermau in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, was arrested in 2018 in connection with the alleged rape incident that took place in 2017. The case was registered on a complaint from the rape survivor's uncle Mahesh Singh, who is lodged in the Raebareli jail, police said. Besides the BJP legislator, his brother Manoj Singh Sengar, Vinod Mishra, Haripal Singh, Naveen Singh, Komal Singh, Arun Singh, Gyandendra Singh, Rinku Singh and Awadhesh Singh have been named in the FIR.

Who owns the truck?

It is still not clear who owns the truck, which collided with the car on Sunday. BJP leaders on Monday alleged that the truck belongs to a Samajwadi Party leader.

Scores of people gathered at India Gate on Monday evening demanding justice for the Unnao rape survivor.

Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav joined the citizens, who were turned on their mobile phoneflashlights in solidarity with the 19-year-old woman and held posters that read "tum akeli nahi ho" (you are not alone).
