Writer-politician Shashi Tharoor has yet again unleashed an English hurricane. The new word, hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, came in response to the social media maelstrom following his tweet on Wednesday.
He had tweeted that his forthcoming book 'The Paradoxical Prime Minister' is 'more than just a 400-page exercise in floccinaucinihilipilication' on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a calibrated and humorous response to the apparent 'fear of long' words, Tharoor said one need not look up the dictionary for hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia. He said the word meant 'fear of long words.' He tweeted that he was 'sorry' for one of his tweets giving rise to an epidemic of hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia!
Social media was quick to go to town with the hippo of a word. Tharoor's response was a double delight to the connoisseurs of his writing and oration. The writer's response was indicative of it that he was always game for some word play.
For a count, the first word had 27 letters, the second had 35. Measure for measure!
