Pathanamthitta: A month after the nurses' strike at private hospitals in Thrissur, United Nurses Association called for a strike in Pathanamthitta on Thursday.
Nurses in private hospitals are observing a strike as the talks between the United Nurses Association and Hospital Management Association failed to reach a consensus. As part of the strike, the nurses will hold a protest march to collectorate.
The demands raised by the nurses include a hike in minimum daily wage to Rs 1500, termination of contract laws, and adherence to patient-nurse ratio prescribed by the law.
UNA national president Jasmin Shah will inaugurate the collectorate march.
“If the hospital managements are not ready to meet our demands, we will observe a complete strike from May 15 to 17,” said UNA representatives.
In April, the UNA observed a 72-hour-long strike in private hospitals in Thrissur seeking wage revision as per the Pay Commission's recommendation and implementation of labour laws. The strike was called off after all 30 hospitals agreed to give a daily wage of Rs 1,500 and 50 per cent interim relief to the nurses.
