Kochi: In the wake of the latest revelations in the gold smuggling case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to accused Swapna Suresh, directing her to appear before the probe team on Wednesday. But in an email, Swapna has responded that she would appear before the team on February 15, citing health issues. However, the ED has not reportedly given the nod for this.
Swapna, who was released after being in preventive detention under the COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act), had gone to the ED office and gave clarifications on some of her earlier statements. She had given her statements in writing. She had then stated the audio clip, in which it was claimed the ED officials had pressurised her to name the chief minister in the case, was fake. But only now did she say that the person behind this was M Sivasankar, former Principal Secretary to the CM.
But questions remain as to how can Sivasankar be part of such a conspiracy while he was under the ED custody. As per Swapna's statements, the special branch officer had asked her to create the voice message on the phone of the woman cop who was on security duty. Other details have not been revealed.
