Malappuram: The photo of a Keralite girl, sitting on the rooftop of her house to attend online classes, had gone viral on social media.
Namitha Narayanan was forced to climb on to the rooftop of her house at Kottakkal in Malappuram due to poor network connectivity indoors. But after the photo went viral, several service-providers offered to help and high-speed connectivity was provided.
Namitha is a final-year BA student at the KMCT Arts and Science College at Kuttippuram.
"Online classes were started on June 1 itself. However, I could not attend the classes due to the poor network. I climbed on to the rooftop to avoid missing out on the classes," she explained.
Namitha said that she had climbed on to the rooftop of her two-storeyed house several times earlier too for other purposes.
"However, this is the first time I went to the rooftop to study. My sister Nayana put a photo of me on the rooftop as her WhatsApp status. This went viral and even became news," she added.
The house is situated in a low-lying area and hence the family faces network connectivity issues.
"This is not just our problem. Several other students in the area are also facing the same issue," she added.
"After seeing the news reports, several internet service-providers called. Jio was the first one to approach us. They have given us free three-month high-speed connectivity. Technicians turned up and ensured that my phone also had a full-range connection. Now, I am able to continue with my studies," Namitha said.
After seeing her viral photo, Kottakkal MLA Syed Abid Husain Thangal had called up Namitha and made enquiries. E T Mohammed Basheer MP too had called her up and lauded her dedication towards studies.
A dedicated student, Namitha aspires to clear the Civil Service exam.
