Mumbai: Binoy Kodiyeri, the son of CPM general secretary (Kerala) Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, on Monday declined to give his blood sample to cops here to carry out a DNA test as part of the investigation into a sexual-abuse complaint filed by a woman based here. However, the Oshiwara police told Binoy that he should give the sample at any cost next Monday.
The woman, a bar dancer, had alleged that she had been sexually exploited for years by Binoy under the pretext of marriage, and that she had an eight-year-old son in the relationship. A local court in Mumbai had recently ordered him to undergo a DNA test so that the paternity of the child claimed to be his by the complainant could be ascertained.
Binoy, who reached the Oshiwara police station on Monday as part of fulfilling his bail conditions, spent around 30 minutes there. However, he did not allow the police take a sample of his blood and instead produced a medical certificate which stated that he was not keeping good health.
The police officials said that they would check the medical certificate.
Binoy had expressed his willingness to undergo DNA test when he appeared at the police station last Monday. He had reportedly given his consent when the police had questioned him on that occasion.
Binoy has to present himself before the Oshiwara police every Monday as part of his bail condition.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Binoy has not confessed to the charges against him. He has in fact denied the allegations raised by the woman who has accused him of sexual harassment over several years and begetting a son. There were earlier some indications that Binoy had admitted to knowing the woman.
Binoy was granted anticipatory bail on the condition that he should appear at Oshiwara police station every Monday for one month and hand over his blood sample if demanded by the investigation team.
According to the complaint, the woman claimed that she had an affair with Binoy while working at a dance bar in Dubai in 2008 and now has a child with him. She also said that till 2015, he even used to send her money every month, for which she has already produced documentary evidence.
