Malappuram: Kanakadurga, who along with Bindu made history by becoming the first women below the age of 50 to enter the Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple following the Supreme Court order, was attacked by her mother-in-law on Tuesday. After days of hiding, Kanakadurga made her first public appearance at the Arppo Arthavam (hailing menstruation) event in Kochi on Monday and had returned home on Tuesday morning.
Kanakadurga, an employee of the civil supplies department, lives at her in-laws' house at Angadippuram in Malappuram district along with her husband Krishnanunni, two children, and mother-in-law Sumathi. Fearing public protest after her Sabarimala entry, she went on hiding with police protection.
Soon after she reached home, there was a war of words between Kanakadurga and Sumathi, and the latter hit her on the forehead with a piece of log. Kanakadurga has sought treatment at the government district hospital, Perinthalmanna. The Perinthalmanna police have registered a case under IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) against her mother-in-law.
Sumathi has also sought treatment at the same hospital, alleging that Kanakadurga attacked her. However, there has been no injury marks on her body and the police are yet to register her complaint.
Meanwhile, hospital sources said that Kanakadurga would be shifted to Manjeri Cedical College for CT scan and further tests.
