Kozhikode: Their neatly groomed flowing beards may raise an eyebrow or two, but their yeoman service can only be held in high regard by one and all. A stem cell donation registration campaign was organised as part of 'Thaadi Mamankam' - a beard competition held under the aegis of the Kerala Beard Club and Tathva Events, was well received by many.
Eighty-six people enrolled their names on the Datri Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry as part of the drive. Many people, including a Class 8 student and college students, also donated their hair that will used in the making of natural wigs for cancer patients.
As part of the competition, around 160 participants, including college students and elderly people, exhibited their bristles, and were judged by actors P Reijan, Rajalaksmi and Praveen Parameshwaran.
The event was held in four categories – Long and Strong Beard, Style Beard, Beard Hunk and Young Beard. The bearded men, who reached the last round, walked the ramp to some tantalising music by DJ Jeevan.
K P Ramanunni opened the event, and P Shobith and Shafi Mohammed spoke on the occasion.
