RSS activist held for spreading fake video on Sabarimala issue
The accused, R Vinod of Raj Nivas, Thalappalam, near Erattupetta, was booked under various sections of the IPC for spreading fabricated video with offensive contents on a complaint filed by Malayala Manorama.

Kottayam: Erattupetta police on Friday arrested a man, said to be a right-wing functionary, on charges of circulating a fake video on social media with an intention to cause religious disharmony.

The accused, R Vinod of Raj Nivas, Thalappalam, near Erattupetta, was booked under various sections of the IPC for spreading fabricated video with offensive contents on a complaint filed by Malayala Manorama.

Vinod allegedly spliced and edited the footage of the press conference of former Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman Dr K S Radhakrishnan on the Sabarimala issue, which was aired on Manorama News channel on October 5. He posted it on his Facebook page by falsely attributing the remarks to Muslim League leader and legislator K N A Khader.

The case was registered after Manorama News lodged a complaint with Kottayam district police chief Hari Sankar against the video which was uploaded on Facebook on October 8.

Vinod, a small-time contractor, is an active worker of BJP and RSS, said Erattupetta ASI Sabumon said.
