Pathanamthitta: Incessant rain lashed the district on Thursday, triggering fears of yet another flood situation.

As the waterlevel reached the maximum capacity, shutters of the Moozhiyar dam were opened.

Most of the waterbodies, including Pamba River, are in spate. Houses along the banks of Pamba have been flooded. Shutters of the Pampa Dam is likely to be opened soon as the water level has reached its maximum capacity.

The intense rainfall has resulted in large scale devastation across various parts of the state.

The torrential rain has claimed 49 lives in Kerala since July 9, in the second phase of the southwest monsoon, and nearly 1.10 lakh people are still staying in 486 relief camps.

On Tuesday, torrential rainfall had washed away a portion of the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway. The water level at Idukki dam crossed 83 per cent of its total capacity.
